"My body stay vicious/ I be up in the gym just working on my fitness" - Fergie

Yesterday morning the alarm on my cell phone began to blare at 6 a.m. letting me know it was time for me to roll out of bed and head to the gym. And like I do nearly every morning, I reached over and squeezed my phone to put it into snooze mode. But then I realized I wasn't tired. I was ready to jump out of bed and into my gym gear. So I did just that.

I don't know where this burst of energy came from, but I have my suspicions. On Sunday I started a high-protein diet in hopes of losing some fat and gaining more muscle. So there's a chance my body was well-rested because it didn't spend the night digesting candy corn, nacho cheese and garlic toast.

I'm not sure if it's Olympic fever or the horrible full-body shots of myself from my beach vacation, but something has me wanting to transform my body into one that looks as if it belongs to an athlete. And this meal plan, which is from a pal of mine who does body building figure competitions, is my jump start, along with a lot of extra gym time. In case you're interested, here's what I get to eat each day:

Breakfast
3 egg whites, one whole egg and 3/4 cups of oatmeal

Morning snack
Protein bar or shake

Lunch
5 oz. of lean meat, 2 cups of veggies, 1/2 cup of brown rice or sweet potato

Afternoon snack
Protein bar or shake

Dinner
6 oz. of lean meat and 2 cups of veggies

Dessert
sugar-free Jell-O

As you can see this is definitely not a starvation diet. I feel quite full actually, but thats not to say this isn't torture. If it's not listed above then I can't eat it. This means no fruit smoothies, no cheese, no bread and no candy corn. Sigh.

I'm only doing this for two weeks because I'm sure that's all I can stand. But if I look like Serena Williams at the end of the month, I might change my mind.

The meals sound okay, actually. Perhaps I shall try this, too. Let us know if you begin resembling Serena Williams! :) Are you supposed to lose weight or develop muscle?

Once upon a time, Gold's Gym assigned me a personal trainer for a newspaper story. Our meal allowances sound so similar! For breakfast, imitation egg (my kids call 'em paper eggs), oatmeal packet & 1/2 fruit. 2 snacks a day, consisting of one of the following: cottage cheese, tuna or yogurt. Lunch portion was half of dinner portion & I could alternate the following: small salad, grilled chicken or fish & 1/2 potato. 60 oz. of water each day, nothing else and absolutely nothing after 7 p.m. It stunned me how quickly my workouts started going to the bottom line (so to speak)! I toned up in no time and, after the first 3 days, was rarely hungry! Unfortunately, once the story was over and I no longer had a PT mandating my fitness, I dropped the regimen. I should start again... "Trust Life's unfolding..."

That's awesome, let me know if it works! I lost a lot of weight over the past two years, but I've seemed to hit a plateau of sorts. So I might need to change things up a bit. Good for you for getting out of bed so early!
